O Court of Port Relations (TRP) increased from 12 to 14 years in prison the sentence applied to a man convicted of the murder of the lover in Santa Maria da Feira, district of Aveiro.

The judgment dated September 9 and consulted today by Lusa granted partial provision to the appeal brought by the Public Prosecutor (MP).

The defendant, 57 years old, had been convicted in April at the Feira Court, 11 years and nine months in prison, for a crime of simple murder, and nine months for desecration of corpse.

He was granted a single sentence of 12 years in prison.

Inconformity with the judgment, the MP appealed to Relation, arguing that the man should be sentenced in a single sentence between 16 years and eight months and 21 years in prison.

Judges have decided to aggravate to 13 and a half years in prison the sentence imposed by the crime of murder, maintaining the sentence of nine months for the crime of desecration of corpse.

With this amendment, the legal cumulation had to be reformulated and a single sentence of 14 years in prison was fixed.

The decision has not yet passed on trial because the defendant has appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.

During the trial, the defendant denied the murder, but the court held that the justifications he gave were denied by the evidence and witnesses.

The crime occurred on April 15, 2025 at the victim's home in Lourosa, Santa Maria da Feira.

The court gave it as proof that the defendant, for unspecified reasons, squeezed the victim's neck, with whom he had casual sexual intercourse, killing her by asphyxiation.

The body of the man would be discovered on April 24, buried in the location of the defendant's house, which was arrested by the Judicial Police (JP) the next day.

At the time, PJ reported that the prisoner and the victim were old acquaintances, with strong evidence that, in order to seize the victim's assets, the suspect decided to kill him, presumably by asphyxiation.
