O BCV maintained the master rate and the rates of permanent lending and liquidity absorption facilities at 2.5%, 2.75% and 2.25%, respectively.
The central bank also decided to maintain the minimum cash availability coefficient at 12%.
“ The decision is part of an international environment still marked by the increase in inflationary pressures at global level, given the worsening of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the consequent rise in international energy prices”, he explained.
Despite the “adverse” external framework, the BCV indicated that the Cape Verdean economy “shows some resilience, with the available indicators pointing to the growth of economic activity in the second quarter, sustained by increased domestic demand.”.
“ Annual inflation increased by 0.8% in August, but annual average inflation maintained its downward trend by 1.3%, while in external accounts, “despite the most weakened tourist demand in recent months and increased imports, net international reserves remain at comfortable levels, ensuring around nine months of planned imports for 2026”, he concluded.
The next meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee is scheduled for November 3.
