Coimbra prepares to receive a beer festival with 25 national and international brands. It is called Brew!, joins only handcrafted options and takes place between September 11 and 13.
“ The idea of bringing international brands is not only because it appeals to the public, which ends up having access to different beers (...), but it is also so that the world knows Coimbra – then, sometimes, relationships and collaborations that can be extended and can even lead the brands of Coimbra to make projects in collaboration”, said João Claro, promoter of the event, during the press conference of the Brew presentation!
Over three days, the festival, in the 6th edition, will gather again national and international brewery projects, a ‘street food’ and musical programming, in the Verd’O Parque, next to the Exploratorório – Centro de Ciência Viva, an event that is organized by Brew! and the Municipality of Coimbra, with the support of Águas de Coimbra.
According to João Claro, 25 brands of beers will be present, two of them international (Finland and Spain), with the festival counting this year, for the first time, with the 'Beer Wall', a mobile structure with eight taps, dedicated to a selection of beers from about 10 countries.

“It’s a wall of beers where we end up having several marks, with one barrel. The idea is to bring exclusivity, rarity ", stressed.
Among the beers represented will be Mondeguipa, developed for this edition of the festival from Mondego rice, and the winner of the Mondego Cup contest, held on July 4.
The ticket cup to participate in the festival costs five euros, not being mandatory, and the price of beers can vary “between 2,50 and 4,50 euros, five euros maximum” said John Claro.
Among the novelties of this edition is the first World Race, day 12, with a social aspect, on the two banks of Mondego, which integrates races of five and 10 kilometers and a walk, with departure and arrival in the Verd’O Parque.
“ We tried to call more public for the festival and open it to new aspects, in this case sport and health, even to realize a little that can join a health lifestyle with consumption of beers ", said João Claro.
The first 300 entries, sold out in the first 24 hours, were free, the rest cost five euros.
On the 11th, DJ Draft Punk, Brass Band Peach Sheets, Hangover Band and DJ Rui Tome perform.
Saturday, the 12th, the program includes DJ Half Delight, My Chemical Brewmance and DJ Felipe Sanches, and the next day, DJ Pêra-Rhoxa and Fabior.
The organization's expectation is that membership will grow again this year, after last year's data point to “more than 10,000, 12,000 unique visits”, an estimate based on the purchase of the cup, according to João Claro.
Despite being a festival dedicated to beer, the organization reinforced the conditions directed to families, being available, during the weekend, a child space, free, in addition to a zone of diaper and breastfeeding.
“It’s a currently inclusive environment, where it allows the whole family to join,” said the vice president of Coimbra, Miguel Antunes.
The vice president of the municipality said that the initiative “already becomes one of the references of beer festival at the national level”, expressing the desire to “continue this growth”.
The Coimbra Chamber awarded a support of 65,000 euros that includes Brew! and also the bash — Urban Festival, held in May, promoted by Brew!.
The Águas de Coimbra will be present with AquaVan and through the installation of water points for consumption of participants, the festival and the Munda Race.
