“ Qi want to say that there has been a change of Prime Minister, but never any change in the United Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to NATO and our NATO obligations,” Burnham said during a meeting with Rutte.

The head of the British Government also highlighted the contribution of UK troops participating in NATO missions “all over the world”.

“ It is essential for us to always show our firm commitment to NATO and that is what we will do today,” he said.

The statements were made by Burnham upon receiving Rutte at the United Kingdom National Space Laboratory near Oxford, west of London.

The NATO Secretary-General considered, for his part, that the United Kingdom is “one of the main forces” of the Atlantic Alliance.

The former Dutch Prime Minister stressed the UK’s advantage in the areas of innovative technology, industrial sectors and universities, stating that NATO wants to strengthen access to this knowledge.

“The UK is already on the front line and we need more of that in NATO,” he said.

During the two-day visit to the UK, Mark Rutte is the guest speaker this afternoon for the annual lecture of the Ditchley Foundation dedicated to foreign policy.

On Thursday, he has scheduled a meeting with the Foreign Ministers, Ed Miliband, and British Defense, Wes Streeting.

Meanwhile, Andy Burnham is still receiving Canadian counterpart Mark Carney in Liverpool for a bilateral meeting.

According to the British press, the two will then watch the football game of the club that both support, Everton, against Wolverhampton Wolves, trained by Portuguese César Peixoto.
