Dog rescued in Massamá after being abandoned and trapped to ruins

A dog was abandoned in a wilderness site of Massamá in Sintra, trapped in ruins, by its own leash, without water or food. A citizen who passed the place realized the animal’s “despair” and called the authorities. The canid ended up safe.

A Public Security Police (PSP), with the support of the Department of Public Health and Animal Welfare (DBA) of the Municipality of Sintra, proceeded on the morning of November 4, to the rescue of an abandoned dog and trapped in ruins in a wilderness site of Massama.

In a statement sent to News to Minutes, the PSP reports that it has been aware of the situation through a “civil and vigilant denouncement of a citizen”.

The person was walking his own pet when he realized the canid was present.

In the face of the animal’s “desperation”, he immediately called the authorities to the site.

The cops moved there and, after field search, managed to locate the animal. The dog was tied by the leash itself to a metal structure next to the ruins there, prevented from being free, without water and without food, as can be seen in the photograph also shared by the PSP.

Dog was sent to local facilities

After the “Safe Rescue Operation”, DBA’s specialized officials collected the canid, which was sent to the official premises of the department, “where it is receiving due evaluation and veterinary assistance”.

The PSP will now elaborate the competent office, to refer to the Public Prosecutor (MP), because there are suspicions “of the crime of abandonment and abuse of pet animals”.

In the note sent to News to Minutes, the PSP expresses its “public thanks to the whistleblower citizen, whose proactivity and sense of citizenship were decisive to save the life of the animal”.
