A captaincy of the Port of Funchal today issued a warning of bad weather for the archipelago of Madeira, recommending to owners and shipowners to take the necessary precautions.
In the information disclosed, the captaincy indicates that it received from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) the warning of bad signal time 6, corresponding to winds between 51 and 62 km/h of any direction.
The archipelago of Madeira will be under yellow warning because of the rain, sometimes strong, persistent and accompanied by thunder, between 12:00 and 18:00 Saturday, then passing the orange warning between 18:00 Saturday and 03:00 Sunday.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) also issued yellow warning because of the strong wind, with gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour, between 12:00 and 18:00 Saturday, then passing the orange warning, with gusts up to 100 kilometers per hour, between 18:00 Saturday and 00:00.
A yellow warning was also issued due to the maritime agitation, but only to the southern coast of the region, between 12:00 on Sunday and 6:00 on Monday.
The orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high-risk weather situation” and yellow when there is a “risk situation for certain weather-dependent activities”.
According to IPMA, continental Portugal and the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores will be affected from Sunday until next Friday by heavy rain and wind and sea agitation following a depression centered north of the Azores, called Bruna.
