“ Cwing” is also the title of the new creation of the Ensemble Contact Notes, which will premiere on the last day of the festival, which runs from 25 to 27 nearby.
About this composition, OCP writes: “The creative process was inspired by evocation and transposition into the sound universe of the singular meaning of ‘home’ for each of the elements of the group. The house holds aromas, families, stories and affections; it welcomes music, the breeze or the tambourine of rain... CASA invites us to integrate a sound journey through the imaginary of memories and sensations”.
The FIMCO “celebrates the idea of home as a meeting space, memory, creation and sharing, gathering over three days, musicians, composers and young interpreters, focusing on Portuguese music, contemporary creation and dialogue between different artistic languages”, says OCP, in a statement.
The festival program “runs several sound universes, from the repertoire to quintet of breaths of Mozart, Joly Braga Santos, Luís Tinoco and Eurico Carrapatoso, to the dialogue between piano and vibraphone starring Francisco Couto and Jonathan Silva, through the new creation ‘Casa’, and the performance ‘Borns Sonors: Jaime Reis’”, presented by musicians of the Young Portuguese Orchestra (JOP), in the context of the Contemporary Meeting JOP 2026.
On the opening day, at 9 p.m., OCP's Five Breathing Quintet presents “Mozart and the House Winds”, a program that, in addition to the interpretation of a transcription of Serenata in Dó minor of the Austrian nineteenth-century composer, includes works by Joly Braga Santos, Luís Tinoco and Eurico Carrapatoso, among others.
The following day, at 9 p.m., “Piano e Vibrafone em Diálogo” is presented by Francisco Couto and Jonathan Silva, respectively piano and vibrafone, with a program that includes pieces by Armando José Fernandes, Paulo Perfeito and Solange Azevedo, among others.
On the 27th, at 17:00, “Sleep bodies: Jaime Reis”, by Carolina Carneiro (thromp and sound objects), José Resende (violin and sound objects), César Alves (violin and sound objects), Ester Santos and Vasco Ferrão (violence and sound objects) and João Santos (tuba and sound objects).
It is a “collective and improvised performance, guided by composer Jaime Reis, based on the principles of archetypal listening of acoustic music, using instruments designed from reused materials, participants develop a joint sound creation that explores the potential of the instruments, the spatiality and the capture and electronic diffusion of sound”.
This year’s edition is, according to OCP, “the celebration of its own” orchestra led by Pedro Carneiro, founded 19 years ago, and that “has contributed to building this house of creation and citizenship”.
To the edition of the FIMCO last year, 415 viewers attended, according to OCP data.
