Ua couple who abandoned a newborn baby in a camp in Malaga, Spain, was sentenced by the Provincial Court to seven years in prison each. The case dates back to October 2023 when the couple arranged to meet at a sporting event – the woman came from Córdoba and the man from Fuengirola.

That night, the woman gave birth and, hours later, abandoned the newborn at a camp near the Victoria Kent railway station in Malaga, recalls the Spanish site 20 minutes.

The couple's trial took place in February last year, however, since then defenses have presented various resources.

Still, according to the court’s conclusions, the baby was abandoned “even though it was aware of the possibility that the baby would die”.

“The abandonment was carried out exclusively by the defendant, who covered the baby with a towel and a kind of blouse that he found on the way,” says the court sentence, quoted by the website, which also informs that the baby was found alive.

The sentence also indicates that none of the defendants called 911, nor asked anyone for help.

It explains the Spanish website that about two hours after the mother left the baby, the man and the woman went to the train station to catch a train to Fuengirola. Then they went home to the defendant, where they remained until the defendant returned to Córdoba the next day.

Although the mother abandoned the newborn, the court considered that man did nothing to prevent abandonment. Days after that, they both switched cell phone numbers so they wouldn't be located, considering the mother discovered through social media that the baby had been found alive.

The man and the woman were charged by the court as perpetrators of attempted murder and received a sentence of seven years in prison each, a 10-year restraining order prohibiting them from contacting the victim and a 10-year probation period after serving the sentence.

“ Fortunately, the baby did not die,” the court declared, advancing that the newborn was found alive at 8 a.m. that morning in October 2023.
