Um newborn baby was found dead inside a garbage can in Angers, west of France, on Wednesday. The mother, a woman about 30 years old, was arrested and was in protective custody.
According to the first autopsy results, the baby will have been born alive, so the suspect was formally charged with the murder of a child under 15 this Friday.
“ The first elements of the autopsy point to the possibility of being a newborn who will have been born, possibly, at the end of pregnancy and with life”, the French Public Prosecutor indicated.
The newborn's body was found during a house search, after the gardeners who maintained the green spaces of a residential complex reported the discovery of "human organic matter".
On the spot, the coroner confirmed it was a “human placenta”, explained Angers’ prosecutor Sylvain Barbier Sainte Marie.
During the investigation, authorities identified a woman about 30 years old, who was already the mother of a child and occupied an apartment whose windows gave to the location where the remains were found.
A house search was then conducted and the body of a male baby was found in a garbage compartment in the basement of the house.
The woman, with no criminal record, could be sentenced to a life sentence.
