Uthe weekend tour in the U.S. state of Arizona became a tragedy after a couple who shared an inflatable kayak fell into the water and drowned.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Department revealed that the emergency teams received their first alert at 1:34 p.m. (local time) last Saturday, October 31. He realized that a man and a woman were floating in the Salt River and that the man was screaming that the woman could not swim.
The victims were identified as Cindy Bowers, 68, and her husband, Anthony Beringer, 59.
Moments later, Cindy submerged, followed by Anthony, in an apparent attempt to reach her.
Authorities, according to ABC15Arizona, said that although they had different nicknames, they were married and lived in Chandler.
The helicopters and an aerial propulsion boat located the woman's body around 2:10 p.m. and the man's body around 3:00 p.m.
It was further confirmed that neither the woman nor the man were wearing a life jacket when the accident occurred.
The sudden floods that hit Arizona over the weekend were attributed to an atmospheric river that brought rainfall above average to the state.
“ Increasing the flow can create dangerous currents and conditions that change rapidly,” the sheriff’s department warned in a social media publication.
