A influencer Alice Trewinnard, 36, is a mother of three children. By being able to relate to a reality that can often be more complicated, the creator of digital content spoke publicly about the case of Lindsay Clancy, an American woman who, at the age of 32, killed her three children and then attempted suicide.
“ This is one of those tragedies that, at least for me, doesn't just shock. This story seems to cross us from so devastating it is. Her children were the EXACT age of my children at this time. Five years, three years and eight months. It is absolutely unbearable to even think of such a monstrosity with my children. But invariably, and against my will, my brain makes this kind of correspondence ", begins by saying the entrepreneur.
“[...] Part of me can’t help feeling a huge pity and compassion for Lindsay. From everything I've heard, I see a mother who wasn't well in her head and asked for help in so many ways! Consultations, medication, hospitalizations, requests for family help, so many outbursts... it seems the system and many people have failed you. And that’s really sad”, he added.
Alice spoke after her personal experience and confessed that after the birth of her first daughter, Vera, in 2021, felt “a wreck”.
“ I recognize well the tiredness, the feeling of being overwhelmed so many times, of feeling that we have failed, the sleepy nights, we have no time for ourselves, the mental burden to explode, in short, the very great demands of parenting. And apparently (or allegedly?) this was Lindsay's starting point to reach the psychotic state that arrived. Fortunately, I don't know what postpartum depression is, let alone a state of psychosis, but I had baby blues in my first postpartum, and I thought it was hard. I asked for help on several fronts in the challenges I was having and it helped me a lot ", confessed Alice.
“ I remember hearing the term postpartum psychosis in my birth preparation course when I was pregnant with my first daughter and being told it was a medical emergency. Very rare, but it existed. Lindsay gave so many signals and even verbalized that she wasn't well. This story places maternal mental health on the table. Mothers also need to be cared for in the postpartum. We went through so much [...] we have to ask if the mother is okay. [...] If there is anything that we can take away from this absolutely devastating tragedy, let it be this conversation about maternal mental health”, he also confessed.
At the end of her sharing, Alice shows an image with her eldest daughter in her lap where she smiles, but she says that “she was a wreck inside”. Soon after, the influence shows a photo of him crying, confessing that “he cried all night and part of the morning”.
