A National Commission of the PS expressed its agreement with the feasibility, by abstention, of the State Budget for 2027, today the socialist president, Carlos César, who defended the “ sense of responsibility” in the current context of international crisis.
“ I think the expression of will on this National Commission was extremely significant. Among more than four dozen speakers, and about 200 people present, there was not a single person who did not express his agreement with what the PS is proposing [abstention], which is essentially a clear approach to the budgetary issue,” Carlos César replied to journalists at the end of today’s meeting of this PS body in Lisbon.
The current international and European context, from the perspective of the president of the PS, “requires a greater sense of responsibility from governments and authorities.”.
“ This sense of responsibility, in the Portuguese case, is that of not facing these risks, which are very close risks, forcing situations of instability, interruption of government or even government without budget ", justified.
According to Carlos César, this decision “does not mean that we agree with the budget”, but rather “with the need not to take risks that would be painful for the whole country and for the Portuguese administration”.
In the opening speech of this National Commission, the leader of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, again proposed the feasibility, by way of abstention, of the OE2027, despite admitting that the “deepest convictions” would lead to a vote against a “bad state budget”, but that the PS opposes the government and not the country.
