O Government of the Azores launched today the international public tender for the project of design and construction of the expansion and refurbishment of the airport and building of the Service of Rescue and Fight against Fire (SSLCI) of Corvo aerodrome.

According to a note from the coalition executive PSD/CDS-PP/PPM, the tender was launched by the Regional Secretariat of Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructure, through the Regional Directorate of Public Works, and the undertaking has a basic price of EUR 5.1 million (increased VAT at the legal rate in force).

The deadline for the submission of tenders takes place for 90 days through the acinGov electronic platform.

The project “provides for a set of interventions aimed at enhancing the operationality, safety and comfort of this airport infrastructure, while adapting it to the technical requirements of the reference aircraft and the applicable civil aviation standards,” he said.

According to the note, the award will be made according to the criterion of the most economically advantageous tender, in multifactor mode, considering the factors and subfactors defined in the tender program.

In Corvo's airport, the smallest island of the Azores, the intervention includes the expansion and reorganization of existing spaces, the remodeling of the interior and exterior areas and the optimization of passenger, luggage and personnel flows.

The modernisation of check-in areas, safety control, boarding, landing and baggage collection is also planned, as well as strengthening user accessibility and comfort conditions.

With regard to the SSLCI building, work includes the extension of operational facilities and the refurbishment of technical, administrative and support areas.

The creation or modernisation of essential infrastructure such as garages for emergency vehicles, command and communications rooms, locker rooms, rest areas, training rooms and equipment warehouses are also planned.

The intervention will “enhance SSLCI’s response capacity in emergency situations, while promoting the modernisation of existing infrastructures, providing them with better conditions of functionality and energy efficiency”, guarantees the Government of the Azores.

The project is part of the concession of the public airport service to SATA Gestão de Aeródromos, S.A., celebrated in September 2025, “keeping the region responsible for structural investments in concessional airport infrastructure”, he concluded.
