“Hhears a total failure in the electrical system ", reported the Ministry of Energy and Mines in the social network X, without specifying the cause.
This is the seventh national failure since the beginning of the year and the twelfth since the end of 2024.
The island, with 9.4 million inhabitants, suffers constant power cuts due to the obsolete state of its thermal power plants, cuts that have worsened since January, when the United States of America imposed an oil blockade on the island that complicates fuel supply to its reserve power plants and generators.
In recent weeks, the cuts lasted more than 30 hours in the capital, while in other provinces they exceeded 60 consecutive hours.
These failures also affect water supply and telephone network throughout the country.
Havana attributes the state of its power grid to Washington's punitive measures, while the United States maintains that responsibility lies with the Cuban government and its poor economic management.
Relations between the United States and Cuba have become very tense since the beginning of the year, especially after the capture by Washington of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, an ally of the Cuban government. Especially since this country was Cuba's main oil supplier.
