News to Minutes
A Dacia works on the electrification of the range and, in the coming years, will have news – including the new generation of Spring, which is imminent. But this won't be the only one.
Lina Ribeiro, director of Romanian brand management for the UK, revealed to Auto Express that there are two brand “classics” that will have 100 percent electric motorizations: “We'll still have Sandero and Sandero Stepway. The proposal will be multi-energy, including electric“.
Sandero and Sandero Stepway debuted in 2008 and, about 20 years later, prepare to also have fully electric versions – although they maintain combustion and hybrid options. This is expected to happen in 2028, according to the aforementioned publication.
O Dacia Sandero is a subcompact hatchback that already goes in its third generation, proposing front traction. It is currently for sale in Portugal with gasoline and bifuel (gasolin/GPL) versions. It was the best-selling model in Europe in the first half of the year (DataForce data, cited in Automotive News Europe), has long been one of the Old Continent’s “selling champions”.
From Sandero, the Sandero Stepway emerged, whose first generation reached Europe in 2009. The subcompact crossover also has only front traction and gasoline or bifuel engines.
With Sandero electrification, dacia will extend its electric range, which by 2030 will have four new models. Moreover, Executive Director Katrin Adt made clear her ambitions: “The mission is to have an electric offer in each segment“.
At the moment, there are several hybrid models of the Romanian brand Renault Group. However, the only 100 percent electric is Spring. In its first generation, it is based on the CMFA-EV platform, but the second will be based on AmpR Small. This could also be the platform for futures Electric Sandero, currently all Dacia except Spring are based on CMF-B.
It should be noted that CMF-B gave rise to AmpR Small, which eventually adopted its own name after it was originally introduced as CMF-B EV. It equips Renault's neoclassic electrics (4, 5 and Twingo E-Tech), as well as Alpine A290 and the new Nissan Micra – both “nearly” relatives of Renault 5 E-Tech.
Other model could have a 100 percent electric variant in the future is Dacia Duster. Before leaving the brand’s leadership last year, Denis Le Vot had told the British publication Autocar that this option for the crossover SUV would arrive “at the proper time”.
