O urgent debate on police action in demonstrations for housing required by the CFP, which would imply a change in the budget discussion schedule, did not gather consensus among the parties to be scheduled, having opposition from the CDS.
Source of the CDS told the Lusa agency that “there is no precedent in the Assembly of the Republic to change the discussion schedule of the State Budget to fit another debate”.
On Monday, the President of the Assembly of the Republic asked the parties to clarify within 24 hours if there was consensus to mark a debate on housing required by the CFP, accepting a change in the budget discussion schedule.
In his order, José Pedro Aguiar-White stressed that this debate could only be marked if no political force expressed opposition to the amendment of the parliamentary agenda. This opposition was eventually played by the CDS.
Today, in the communication sent to the various benches, the office of José Pedro Aguiar-Branco said that “the deadline has been set, it appears that three PS, Free and PCP parliamentary groups and three single party representatives [BE, PAN and JPP] have spoken in favour of amending the parliamentary calendar, with one Parliamentary Group expressing its opposition [CDS]. The other parliamentary groups [PSD, Aquida and IL] did not present pronunciation within the established deadline”, refers.
In this context, according to the office of José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, “the consensus required for the exceptional amendment of the previously approved parliamentary programming has not been reached, in accordance with the rules of procedure and the parliamentary background developed in that order, the President of the Assembly of the Republic considers that the conditions for the convening of the extraordinary plenary meeting are not met, while the timetable for the assessment of the State Budget for 2027 is maintained”.
“ This decision is without prejudice to the exercise of the power of the requesting Parliamentary Group [the CFP] to the holding of the urgent debate, which may be scheduled for the first plenary session at which it is possible, after the completion of the procedure for assessing the State Budget for 2027, in the applicable rules”, adds.
