O They said today that the United States' response to their proposal to end the war “was not convincing” and demanded that Washington accept Tehran’s conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Ormuz.
“ The United States’ response to Iran’s rights and claims was not convincing and must respond fully and explicitly to the seven conditions presented by Iran and act accordingly,” wrote Iran’s Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei on social network X.
“Only then will the Strait of Ormuz be reopened,” guaranteed the maximum security officer of the Islamic Republic.
Iran requires, among other conditions for reaching a peace agreement, the end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, the release of its financial assets in third countries, the lifting of oil sanctions and the end of the blockade imposed by the United States on Iranian ports and ships.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ismail Bagaei said that if Washington accepts these conditions, Tehran will reopen the narrow strategy of Ormuz within two days.
Iran and the United States have intensified indirect negotiations in the last week to find a solution to the war, which began on 28 February, but so far they have failed to reach agreement.
At the same time, the United States attacked the Iranian island of Qeshm in the south of the country on Monday night, in a limited military operation, reported The Wall Street Journal, in what will have been the first attacks on Iranian territory in two months.
However, as of today, the American President. Donald Trump confirmed the attacks on the Iranian island of Qeshm, which aimed at alleged anti-aircraft military infrastructure, carried out within hours of the start of the mid-term elections in the United States.
“ It was a small attack, not a war,” Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News, in which he made no reference to Iranian demands.
“ They built an anti-aircraft infrastructure. It took them about two months to do it. We saw your construction. As soon as it was finished, we attacked it yesterday [Monday] at night [local time in the United States], in a very kind way,” Trump said.
The island is apparently home to an underground missile facility, a naval base and an important desalination station.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) did not announce operations. However, U.S. officials cited by various media outlets in the United States said the attack was a response to the slaughter of an American military aircraft in the region.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed this morning the overthrow of two US recon drones in the vicinity of Qeshm Island, according to the Spanish news agency EFE.
The attacks arise at a time when the Americans vote in the mid-term elections, whose polls point to a potential victory of the Democrats who may have the majority in the two chambers of Congress (Chamber of Representatives and Senate).
Several American media, such as the Axios website, have reported the possibility of the war between the United States and Iran being resumed after the scrutiny that takes place today.
