Pcontinental ortugal should register rain, wind and sea agitation from Sunday until 13 November, following a depression centered north of the Azores, called Bruna, today warned the IPMA.
According to weather forecasts, the continent will feel the effects of depression Bruna, initially with the approach of an associated frontal system, from the beginning of Sunday morning, November 8th, and with the passage of successive frontal ripples “at least until the end of next week, on 13th”.
The issue is “a depression centered north of the Azores archipelago, inserted in a vast depression region where several cores will be formed in the coming days,” said the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), indicating that it will affect continental Portugal, but also the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira.
On the continent there are periods of rain “persistent and sometimes strong”, starting on Sunday, which may occasionally be accompanied by thunderstorms, indicated the IPMA, indicating that the largest accumulated precipitation should occur when the various front waves pass through the week and may exceed the 200 millilitres (mm), especially in mountainous areas, until the 13th.
The wind “will blow from the south quadrant, intensifying from day 08 [sunday] with gusts up to 70 km/h [kilometres per hour] on the west coast and in the highlands, warned the institute.
As for the maritime agitation in mainland Portugal, the IPMA provides “southwest waves with 1 to 2 meters on the western coast from day 07 [saturday], increasing to 4 to 5 meters, on day 09 [Monday]”, indicating that on the southern coast of the Algarve are forecast waves of south-east with 1 to 1,5 meters on Sunday (day 08), passing to southwest waves with 2 to 3 meters on Monday (day 09).
“ Due to this situation, meteorological warnings will be issued if justified, advising the monitoring of the updates of them ", said.
Eight of the 18 districts of the continent, namely Viana do Castelo, Porto, Braga, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon and Setúbal, will be under yellow warning (the least severe on a scale of three), from 15:00 on Friday and until 00:00 on Saturday, due to the forecast of rain, according to the IPMA.
According to the institute, depression Bruna is already conditioning the state of time in the Azores, and this influence is expected to continue for the next few days, with precipitation, wind and maritime agitation.
On the other hand, the Madeira archipelago should feel the effects of depression with the passage of frontal ripples on Saturday and Sunday, and the occurrence of periods of rain, as well as intense wind and strong ripple, warned the IPMA.
