A prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, said he was “very skeptical” about the talks of Finland’s and Norway’s leaders with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and argued that it is necessary to “keep Europe together instead of each acting on its own”.
“ I am very skeptical about this Norwegian and Finnish initiative. It was not coordinated with any of the remaining [countries]”, argued, quoted by the Danish public station DR, during a visit to Finland.
Frederiksen also said that he does not see “any signs” that Russia wants peace with Europe, accusing Moscow of carrying out a “hybrid war that continues every day”.
“ I think we should keep Europe together instead of each acting on its own,” he said.
The statements of the Danish Prime Minister appear after it has been revealed that the leaders of Finland and Norway have spoken with the Presidents of Russia and Ukraine today.
According to Finland’s president, Alexander Stubb, the conversation with Putin “was frank and substantial”.
The discussion took place in consultation with Ukraine, Stubb and the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Store, were required in a statement quoted by the French agency AFP.
“ The outcome of this war will have direct consequences for our security and, more broadly, for Europe. Ending the war requires direct discussions,” Stubb said.
The Ukrainian presidency announced that Zelensky spoke to Stubb and Jonas Gahr Store after the call of both with Putin, but still no results of the conversation are unknown.
This is the first contact between Putin and Stubb, while the Norwegian Prime Minister last spoke with the Russian leader in March 2022.
