Dthe children were killed by Pakistani fire in eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border, the Afghan police declared today.

According to Syed Tayyeb Hammad, spokesperson for the police of the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, the incident occurred on Wednesday at the border post of Torkham.

Two other civilians were also injured, the spokesman added.

Two Pakistani officials working near this border post declared to the AFP news agency, under anonymity, that “there has been no shooting in the last three days”.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been particularly tense since the return of the Taliban Government in August 2021.

In October 2025, the fighting made dozens dead and led to the almost total closure of the land border between the two neighboring countries.

After several mediations, the clashes slowed, but did not cease completely, evolving into an open war at the end of February.

Pakistan accuses the Afghan Taliban authorities of harboring and supporting the Pakistani ‘jihadist’ movement Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — created in 2005 and responsible for lethal attacks on Pakistani soil — an accusation the Afghan side denies.

About 500 civilians have died in episodes of violence between the two countries since October 2025, according to data from the United Nations mission in Afghanistan.
