With the increase in electric car sales, complaints have also been rising in Portugal in recent years. A Chinese manufacturer leads the number of cases per brand.

Cwe recently noted that, in the last two years, complaints about electric cars have skyrocketed in Portugal, counting the first seven months of the year.
The data is from the Complaint Portal, showing a growth of 173 percent against the same period of 2024 and 92 percent when compared to 2025.
Of the 205 registered, 71 percent were made up of car brands. And in this particular case, she's a Chinese woman in the lead.
Among the marks identified by the authors of the report, bYD concentrates 17 percent of complaints presented by the end of july. Second is Teslawith 15 percent.
This will certainly not be ignored be two of the most selling electric car manufacturers in Portugal. In fact, from January to July, Tesla was the most electric sold in the country (6,364), while BYD closes the top five with 2,971 units sold. In the middle, there are still BMW, Peugeot and Citroën, which are not among those with more complaints.
It should be recalled that, of all complaints registered by the Complaint Portal, more than two thirds (72%) were related to the time of after-sales and services.
