“ A destruction of [weapons] deposits in Bulgaria is becoming something everyday,” said the company in a statement quoted by Efe, adding that none of the investigations open to explosions and fires in defence industry installations have been completed since 2011.
The company EMKO criticized the indifference of the institutions and warned that the lack of results “encourages authors and accomplices” to act with impunity.
Regarding the last incident, EMKO argued that the fire could not have been caused by a human error, since the facility had not been used for months and had been the subject of seven inspections just this year – the last one made 20 days ago – and no irregularities were detected.
“ All similar incidents since 2011 have been caused by external forces. There is no reason to assume that this case is different,” added the company in a press release, asking for a coordinated response from the European Union and NATO.
Despite the criticism, EMKO did not provide any evidence that the explosion was related to sabotage and the prosecution opened an investigation to investigate the case.
The company EMKO belongs to an entrepreneur who has supplied arms to Ukraine, Emilian Gebrev, and who was the target of an assassination attempt in 2015, by poisoning with neurotoxic agent Novichok, the same one that was used in the 2018 assassination attempt by former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, United Kingdom.
