O Espaço Medronho is inaugurated today in the old milling of the village of Sabóia, in the municipality of Odemira, in an investment of the municipal council more than one million euros to value this product and local producers.
In a statement, the House of Odemira, in the district of Beja, explained that the new space Medronho, which will be inaugurated at 16:15 today, is installed in the former milling of Sabóia, inside the county, where a business incubator already operates.
The new equipment brings together “four complementary valencias”, namely the Community Distillery, the Central Square, the Interpretative Centre of the Medronho and the Food Lab, indicated.
“The objective is to value the medronho and its producers, promote knowledge about this emblematic fruit of the territory and create a new meeting and dynamization point for the community,” the municipality stressed.
In this context, the municipality continued, the Community Distillery “will support the transformation and appreciation of the medronho, reinforcing opportunities for local producers”.
The Interpretative Center “will be dedicated to the history, characteristics and potential of the fruit”, while the Food Lab “will work as an experimental kitchen and laboratory to develop new uses of the medron and its by-products”.
Finally, Praça Central “will create an area open to the population and available for cultural, social and economic initiatives”, can be read in the statement.
According to the municipality of the Alentejo coast, the opening of this infrastructure “continues the requalification of the old milling enclosure, started with the installation of the incubator of companies”.
The equipment will be energized by the municipality, in conjunction with Arbutus – Association for the Promotion of Medronho and the Junta de Freguesia de Sabóia.
It is a partnership “that aims to enhance the endogenous resources of the territory, stimulate the participation of the community and consolidate Savoy as a local development hub”, the city council justified.
