Tforgotten wet ears never leave pleasant smells around the house. But do these items still have salvation?
Alicia Sokolowski, president and co-CEO of AspenClean reveals to the blog The Spruce o secret to retrieve the wet towels that were forgotten.
If you want to avoid the smell of mold and the spread of bacteria, you must follow these indications, otherwise the expert will ensure that these towels will not be saved, but a chronic mold problem.
“ Just because a towel smells like mold doesn’t mean it’s automatically spoiled, but what happened was that the towel was wet long enough for bacteria causing this odor to develop.”
From then on, after a wash, the most important step, according to the expert, is to ensure that the towels are well dried.
But how can you remove the odors from those that have been forgotten for too long? The cleaning expert reveals the mystery trick with the product everyone has at home: The vinegar.
The trick of vinegar
That's right, all you'll need to do is add a good amount of white vinegar to the next washing cycle.
“ White vinegar is considered a common domestic product that can eliminate the smell of mold from some towels due to its high acidity. The vinegar acid can break retained odors when added to the washing machine”, describes.
Still, to avoid getting a double odor problem, make sure the washing is “deep, so as to remove also the smell of vinegar”, suggests the expert.
Other tips to ensure good cleaning
Sokolowski states that must avoid filling the machine in full. And to complement the process, once the washing cycle is over, do not waste time: “Take off the towels and place them immediately in the dryer or in the extender,” he adds.
In addition, make sure that when hanging the towels to dry, “there is enough air circulation”.
And when is the towel no longer safe?
- When the cloth of the towel is shredded, torn or thinner, especially in the center of the towel;
- When the towel still has a chronic smell of mold even after washing;
- When the towel has permanent spots, holes or worn edges.
- When the towel no longer has absorption power or oily sensation after washing.
