US will leave Iran unless Trump decides

American President Donald Trump said today that the United States will leave Iran, “unless” Washington decides to “take oil, as in Venezuela,” a country where it still does not see conditions for elections.

“ ANDventually, we will leave [Iran] unless we decide to stay and keep the oil, as in Venezuela. We don't talk about Venezuela anymore, do we? We get thousands and thousands and billions of dollars. We paid for the war many times,” the President told journalists in Doonbeg, Ireland, where he attended a tournament at his own golf club.

Trump was answering questions about the meeting that will take place on Monday between Oman and Iran, where Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq should be present, regarding the future of the Strait of Ormuz.

After, on Saturday, he anticipated that the war in the Middle East would end after the mid-November US elections, Donald Trump compared the situation in Iran to Venezuela, where, he said, “people were living in a difficult situation, and now oil companies are coming in and making a lot of money.”.

Asked about the possibility of elections in Venezuela, where the United States has been supporting interim President Delcy Rodríguez since the capture of Nicolás Maduro in January, Trump stressed that these will happen “when they are ready”.

“ It was a very sad country. And now the people are very happy. The people of Venezuela are very happy. And they see what's happening. In fact, thousands of jobs are being created. All the big companies that really couldn’t or didn’t want to go there, are all there now,” he added.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi today stated that the agreement signed with Oman on the Strait of Ormuz, which is due to be announced on Monday, will not lead to the reopening of this waterway until the United States reasserts the commitments made in the Memorandum of Understanding for peace signed in June.
