A European Commission today indicated that Ukrainian, American and European representatives discussed in Brussels the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war, including by identifying mechanisms for this.

This discussion was held at a meeting, organised today by the European Commission in Brussels, which brought together representatives from Ukraine, the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, NATO and the World Bank.

In a statement released at the end of the meeting, the European Commission notes that Kyiv’s “reconstruction and prosperity” after the war was discussed.

“ The work carried out today and which will continue in the future focuses on improving Ukraine’s post-war economic development and prosperity scenarios,” says the EU executive.

The European Commission specifies that such work includes the “identification of instruments and mechanisms that can support the future development of Ukraine and its own efforts in this direction”.

In this context, the Community Executive highlights “the importance of the ambitious reform agenda that Ukraine is implementing in the framework of its accession to the European Union”.

“ This reform agenda is a key driver of stability and contributes, in turn, to strengthening investor confidence, playing a significant role in attracting private capital and maintaining international support,” the European Commission stresses.

In the statement, the European Commission states that the EU remains “united and firm in its support for Ukraine” and recalls that the bloc is the one providing the most financial support to Kyiv, totaling “EUR 231.5 billion since the start of the Russian war of aggression”.

“And as efforts continue to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, EU support for strengthening Ukraine’s capacity and resilience is maintained,” the EU Executive guarantees.

This meeting had been announced on Monday night by United States Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

According to the European Commission, the aim was to follow up the talks that took place in early October in Miami, the United States, also among European, Ukrainian and American leaders, “in order to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.”.

Following this meeting in Miami, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky participated in Oslo in another round of diplomatic negotiations, which also included American Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

The day after that meeting in Oslo, Witkoff met in St Petersburg with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who agreed to resume the peace negotiations with Ukraine, mediated by the United States in November, although there are still differences on the timetable and terms of a possible agreement.
