O the euro rose today against the dollar, returning to the level of $1.12, in the aftermath of the Democratic victory in the mid-term elections on Tuesday, which reassured the US debt markets.
At 18:00 (Lisbon time), the euro was still worth $1,1235, when on Tuesday, at the same time, it negotiated at $1,1195.
The euro also went up against the yen, but it depreciated against the pound.
The European Central Bank (ECB) today set the euro reference exchange at $1,1267.
The Democratic victory in Tuesday's mid-term elections gives the party control of Congress and should limit President Donald Trump's action in the last two years of his term.
These results raised fears of stricter regulation of artificial intelligence (IA), but reassured markets about the trajectory of US debt.
The 10-year US debt interest fell to 4.926%, compared with 4.965%.
From the beginning of January, when the new elect take office, Democrats will be able to define the legislative agenda, condition the federal budget, block presidential nominations and launch parliamentary investigations on the Republican President and members of his administration.
Donald Trump will, however, continue to have important tools of power, including the presidential veto and powers of the executive branch.
Annual inflation in the euro area continued in October the upward trend to 4.0%, above 3.8% in September and 2.1% in the same month of 2025, today estimated Eurostat.
