Dbecause Lindsay Clancy's trial, accused of killing her three children in 2023, was annulled, the ex-husband, through his lawyer, issued a statement saying that "the possibility of reliving" everything again is "painful".
“ The possibility of reliving this tragedy through a new trial is extraordinarily painful – for Patrick, for the family and for all of us”, says the statement quoted by CBS Boston.
Remember that on Friday, the jury again did not agree on whether the nurse is criminally responsible for the death of her children. In this way, Judge William Sullivan, after giving the defense an hour to appeal, declared a null trial.
“Patrick is grateful to the court and jury for their hard work, commitment and perseverance. The loss of children is something from which he will never recover and from which there will never be peace”, he stressed.
Patrick, who divorced Lindsay Clancy after her children died in 2023, has supported her ex-wife, having described her as a “dedicated mother.”.
“ I wasn't married a monster. I was married to someone who got sick,” he said in October 2024 in an interview with The New Yorker.
Patrick also has a lawsuit for negligent murder pending against several mental health professionals who treated his ex-wife weeks and months before Lindsay Clancy killed her three children: Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months old.
Judge declares null judgment. Why?
After seven days and about 36 hours of deliberations, the judge declared the trial null, after refusing an appeal from the defense, Judge William Sullivan indicated that he would annul the trial on Friday morning, after being known that there was no consensus in the verdict.
However, it gave time to the nurse's defense to present an appeal, which was eventually denied.
The Massachusetts Supreme Court rejected the appeal lodged early in the afternoon (local time, end of the day in Lisbon) – based on the only jury that prevented the consensus of the entire jury and created the impasse.
Shortly thereafter, Judge William Sullivan, in the Plymouth courthouse near Boston (northeast), called the entire jury and declared a null trial, thanking them for fulfilling their civic duty and officially ending this trial.
“ At this moment I will declare the jury in impasse and I will declare the trial null ", announced the magistrate.
Lindsay Clancy is accused of killing her three children, five-year-old Cora, Dawson, three-year-old, and eight-month Callan, at the family residence in Massachusetts in 2023. After the children were asphyxiated, the woman threw herself out a window of her house, having survived. However, she suffered severe spinal injuries that left her paraplegic.
More than 80 people witnessed in this trial, with the chances for this woman being the conviction for manslaughter (possibility introduced more recently), first-degree murder or second-degree murder. There is also the possibility that Clancy is not found guilty for reasons of mental health. In this case, the woman will be admitted.
