“ Vwe'll see what's in store for Alcochete in 2000 and... I've lost count. As I do not believe, I hope that one day common sense will prevail and we will return to Montijo ", said Francisco Calheiros, at the Summer University of PSD.
The entrepreneur even pointed out the constraints of the largest airport in the country as the main obstacle to tourism growth in Portugal.
“Lisbon is completely clogged and Alcochete will be ten years. If we had next to Lisbon the Montijo – which is not a shooting ground, which is not an aquifer – is an airport that was already negotiated with the dealer and was the only one that already had an environmental impact statement, it was a shame to drop this,” he said.
The decision to choose Alcochete for the future airport of Lisbon was one of the first announced by Luís Montenegro, after taking office as Prime Minister of an executive PSD/CDS-PP in May 2025.
The President of the Confederation of Tourism of Portugal (CTP) and the President of the Business Confederation of Portugal (CIP), Armindo Monteiro, were today the speakers of an economics conference in the 22nd edition of the Summer University of the PSD, an initiative for the political formation of young people.
