U75-year-old foreign citizen, sought by Swedish judicial authorities for “strong evidence of the practice of the crime of insolvency, was arrested by the Judicial Police (JP) in Cascais.
In a statement, sent this Friday to the essays, PJ indicated that the man was arrested following a “set of investigative investigations” made by the Criminal Information Unit.
“ This is a 75-year-old man who ran several companies in that country, some of them credited with the others. One company had a credit of more than SEK 101 million, which at the current exchange rate amounted to EUR 9 million,” PJ explained.
The crimes occurred in 2024, when, under the management of the suspect, “shares of two subsidiary companies were sold, and subsequently these companies were sold when they were already in insolvency, at a price lower than their real value”.
“In making this decision, it caused injury to the above value in another company, leading to the bankruptcy of the companies sold”, reads in the press release.
The man could be sentenced to six years in prison and, after being present to the Lisbon Court of Relation, he was subject to preventive coercion, pending the subsequent terms of the extradition process.
