O minister of the Presidency today said that the government “is listening” to protesters peacefully about the right to housing, but considered that they will be “more effective” if they respect the limits of the law.

At the press conference after the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers, António Leitão Amaro was asked about the announcement that the Lisbon camp movement will return to build tents and stay overnight in Rossio Square on Saturday, at the end of the demonstration that begins at 4:00 p.m. in Largo de Camões.

The minister said that “the government will keep the same line” in relation to the protests and reiterated that the executive does not give orders to the police authorities, but left a guarantee and advice to the demonstrators.

“ We're really listening. It is not necessary to go beyond the limits of the law in the demonstration so that the demonstration is heard ", he said.

For Leitão Amaro, overcoming the limits of the law “creates a problem for the whole society”.

“ I would say, it is much more effective a demonstration within the limits of the law, because the discussion is only and only about the most important thing, which is what people are expressing," he stressed, ensuring that the government is “hearing, acting”.

The minister added that the government shares with the President of the Republic “the sense of urgency” on the housing problem and is available for dialogue with all parties.

“ We are open door to receive more proposals and more concerns, and more complaints, because this is how we make a calm and representative democracy, and we decided, in the representative bodies ", he said.
