A princess Eugenie and her husband, businessman Jack Brooksbank, revealed this week the name of their youngest daughter, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, who was born on 3 August in Lisbon.
The couple said that the choice of name had been inspired by “3 people who love and admire, from the past and from the present”, and, according to the international press, the decision still took some time.
“Adelaide” was inspired in part by Maria Adelaide of Portugal and Queen Adelaide, wife of William IV, whose preachers Eugenie wore it to her hair during her wedding in 2018.
“Elizabeth” is obviously a tribute to the late paternal grandmother, Elizabeth II and, until then, the meaning of “Annina” was not known.
Hello! magazine has now revealed that Annina Pfuel is a great friend of Eugenie's. The designer, born in Bavaria, is the daughter of Count Christian Bruges-von Pfuel and works as creative director, costume designer and stage designer in opera productions, music videos, cinema and fashion.

In 2024, Eugenie attended Annina's wedding with Caspar von Veltheim in Bavaria.
Despite suspicion, there is no official confirmation of this theory. Sophie Kihm, an expert on baby names, told Hello magazine that might be another reason. “Annina is a rare Italian nickname derived from Anne or Anna. The name Anne often appears in the family tree of the British royal family. Eugenie has an aunt named Anne, and that was the name of six queens of England,” he explained.
