A GNR arrested in Olhão a 49-year-old man convicted of attempted murder in Brazil in 2019 and who was fugitive to justice, under an international arrest warrant, was released today.
In a statement, the GNR states that, after information that the suspect was on national territory, the military carried out investigations that led to his location.
The man had pending a warrant for arrest for an effective prison sentence for murder in the form of attempted murder.
This crime, which occurred in 2019 in the state of Pernambuco, led the suspect to flee to his location on national territory, complying with an international arrest warrant issued by the Brazilian judicial authorities, as well as the sign for arrest of INTERPOL.
The operation involved the Fiscal Action Unit, through the Faro Tax Action Detachment (DAF), with the support of the PSP Special Police Unit.
The facts have been communicated to the Évora Judicial Court.
