“ Nlast night (Monday), the Saudi criminal regime attacked a prison in the city of Al-Hazm, in the province of Al-Jawf, where there were several inmates. Nine of them died, had been captured during recent fighting,” said the head of the National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs of the Houthis, Abdelkader al-Mourtada, on social network X.
Al-Mourtada added that the list of names would be released later.
To date, neither the Riyadh-led coalition nor the Yemeni government has reacted to this information.
Earlier this month, another attack on an Al-Jawf prison, attributed to the coalition, made at least 32 deaths, according to figures released by the Hutis.
Yemen recorded other attacks on prisons on several occasions during the current war, which began in late 2014 and intensified in 2015 with the intervention of the military coalition.
In 2022, an action also attributed to the Riyadh-led coalition reached a detention center in the province of Saada in the north of the country, resulting in the death of at least 87 prisoners.
At the same time, the internationally recognized Yemeni Government has today accused the Hutis — supported by Iran — of firing two ballistic missiles at a busy market in Lahj province in the south, injuring several civilians, according to the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights.
Al-Jawf has been one of the main battlefields in northern Yemen and borders Saudi Arabia, although the focus of the new Hutis offensive and government troops is in the western part of the country, especially in Moka, Hodeida — both on the banks of the Red Sea — and Taiz.
