O National Institute of Statistics (INE) today discloses the rapid estimate of national accounts of the third quarter, after the Portuguese economy has grown 2.6% from April to June.
In the second quarter of this year, the Portuguese economy grew 2.6% in homologous terms, and 0.9% in chain, according to the NSI data, which were revised in September.
Today's publication will allow us to know the evolution of wealth production in the Portuguese economy, based on rapid estimates of the variation rates of the quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in volume.
The data shall be disclosed 30 days after the quarter for which they relate.
According to the barometer of CIP – Confederação Empresarial de Portugal and ISEG, the growth of the Portuguese economy has slowed to 0.3% in chain in the third quarter and slowed to 2.5% in homologous terms.
“ These values correspond to a relevant deceleration against the jump in chain growth in the second quarter, minus 0.6 percentage points (p.p.), and a slight slowdown in the homologous growth rate, minus 0.1 p.p.”, reads in a statement.
On the other hand, the Competitiveness Forum estimates that, in the third quarter, GDP varied, in a chain, between 0.3% and 0.5%, corresponding to an annual variation between 2.2% and 2.4%.
The Catholic Lisbon Forecasting Lab (NECEP), in turn, projects a stagnation after the strong growth of 0.9% of the second quarter, while the annual variation should have been 2.2%, according to the Summary of the Quarterly Sheet of Conjuncture.
For the year as a whole, the government expects a growth of 2.3% of GDP, according to the projections in the proposed State Budget for 2027, delivered to parliament in October.
