Renato Sanches breaks the silence: “In January, I intend to return to action”

Renato Sanches granted an extensive interview to the Friday edition of the newspaper The Ball, in which it broke the silence regarding its plans to pursue its career, at a time when it is free of contract, following the termination of Paris Saint-Germain, a club which in 2022 had paid Lille EUR 15 million for its pass.

“I went through difficult times and had some injuries. Everyone goes through less good phases. In football, there are players who suffer injuries and some end up having more physical problems than others. Unfortunately, I had injuries that I wish I hadn't, but none of them happened due to lack of professionalism ", started by affirming.

“ It was precisely my professionalism that allowed me to play in some of the best clubs in Europe. All these clubs know Renato's work. So I'm completely cool with the injuries, because I know it was a phase. There are people who go through more complicated times than others, and I believe that this phase of my life has passed”, he continued.

“ In January, I intend to return to action and that is what will happen. I want to return well, to represent a club in the best possible way, with the greatest desire in the world to do what I like the most”, completed the 29-year-old player, who, remember, came to be given as almost certain reinforcement of the Amadora Star last summer.

“Rui Vitória has always left me at ease”

In this interview, Renato Sanches also praised the role Rui Vitória played in his career: “When Mister Rui Victoria arrived at Benfica, I was on team B, and things happened quickly. I was very excited to have the opportunity to train with the main team and confront her in the practice games, and I tried to do my best”.

“ I trained myself as if I were at stake, and the way coach treated me was very important, because I was a very quiet person and I was quite comfortable and free to play my game and demonstrate my skills in training. I think it was precisely this way of dealing with me that gave me confidence ", pointed out.

“ It always made me feel comfortable, but that trust also resulted from what I showed in training and what I had shown before. I think I was able to convey confidence to him, and so I was also relatively calm about myself. I always had close and honest relationship with the master and his family,” he added.

“Often after the games he greeted his wife and daughters. Above all, as I grew up and became a man, I realized that beyond the relationship between coach and player, there was also a friendship between us. And he also had a very good relationship with the players in the training. And this, often, makes the difference ", it shot.

“I helped open a door for Benfica’s training players”

For Renato Sanches, it was precisely Rui Vitória’s arrival that “opened the door to the formation of Benfica”: “I think it was fundamental in this regard, in valuing Benfica’s training and deserves the merit of having been one of the few coaches, until that time, giving training players opportunities to show value in the main team.”.

“ It was from there that a new story began in the relationship between Benfica and the players in his formation. I feel like, in a way, I helped open a door for the training players to get to the main team. I am not saying that I was the only one, but after me, many more players began to have opportunities to join the main team”, he said.

"In the meantime, it was mainly South American and Serbian players who had the opportunity to reach the main team at least when I was in the club. After that, with my arrival, with the arrival of Ruben Dias, Iron and other players from Benfica formation, many young people again had this ambition, because they realized and saw that it was possible to get there ", concluded.
