A Águas Públicas do Alentejo (AgdA) will proceed with an effort to add the São Teotónio subsystem, in the municipality of Odemira, an investment of 5.9 million euros that will serve about 16 thousand inhabitants.

In a statement sent to the agency Lusa, the company revealed that the public tender for the project was already published in Diário da República on 12th, and intends to “strengthen the reliability and resilience of the water supply” in this municipality of the district of Beja.

The project, which has an execution period of 630 days, will “ensure the construction of the infrastructure necessary for the transport and supply of water that will materialize the constitution of the San Teotónio subsystem”, he said.

The works include “the installation of new elevated and gravitic pipelines, the construction of reservoirs and lifting stations and the implementation of their electrical equipment, automation and telemanagement”.

According to AgdA, the intervention will take place in the parishes of São Teotónio and Boavista dos Pinheiros and will allow the connection of the new infrastructure to the existing supply systems, “in particular the new water treatment station (ETA) in São Teotónio with the systems of Boavista dos Pinheiros-Odemira, Fataca, Zambujeira do Mar and Brejoão, feeding the associated reservoirs”.

The project will also allow “to strengthen the interconnection between the infrastructure of the Santa Clara System, promoting a more integrated and efficient management of water resources and contributing to increase the reliability, resilience and continuity of water supply to the populations served,” the company explained.

Águas Públicas do Alentejo is based on a partnership between the State and the municipalities for the integrated management of the urban water cycle (water supply services for public consumption and sewage).

The company is responsible for the management of the Public Integrated Water Partnership System of Alentejo (SPPIAA), created in 2009, in a management model then innovative for the water sector.

Built in 2009, it has as shareholders Águas de Portugal (AdP) and the Association of Municipalities for the Management of Public Water of Alentejo (AMGAP).
