Dand according to Banco de Portugal (BdP), by June, direct foreign investment transactions (IDE) amounted to €6.7 billion, while in the first half of 2025 it had registered a negative value, and the investment made in the capital of Portuguese entities amounted to € 6 billion.
During this period, investors living in European countries invested the most in Portugal, especially the increase in investment from France (7 billion) and Spain (€1.9 billion), which was “partially compensated” by the reduction in Luxembourg’s investment (€ 4.6 billion).
Conversely, with regard to Portugal's direct investment abroad (IPE), transactions in the first half of the year amounted to EUR 0,2 billion, a figure mainly explained by the investment made in the capital of non-residents.
As regards the IDE stock in Portugal, at the end of the first half of 2026 it was EUR 225,1 billion, while the IPE stock was EUR 82.2 billion.
These amounts represented respectively 71% and 26% of Portuguese Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
