O work commissioned by the entity responsible for the event (LA28) to the Institute of Applied Economics of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), estimated that the planning, preparation and organization of the Olympic Games “can generate between $20.5 billion and $40.6 billion (35.18 billion) in economic activity”.

The document also stressed that the event could sustain “between 126,000 and 224,000 jobs throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area.”.

It is estimated that the 2028 Olympic Games attracted about two million visitors, which could generate between 1.6 billion and 4.3 billion dollars in tourist spending in Los Angeles alone.

“The magnitude and scope of the economic activity associated with the 2028 Games are significant, even from a conservative perspective,” said LAEDC President and Executive Director Stephen Cheung.

The study examined five main sources of economic activity associated with the Games, which will run from 14 to 30 July 2028, including transport and safety expenses, capital investments and expenses of non-resident visitors, as well as interested parties receiving independent funding.
