O the only member of the JPP today defended the need for consensus, asking the parties to “put aside party-political ideologies, confrontation and political theatre in Parliament”, as well as the “radicalisms”.

The JPP was the first of the parliamentary parties to be received today at the Palace of Belém by the President of the Republic, António José Seguro, in a series of hearings on social cohesion, on which the head of state included housing.

Filipe Sousa said that the President of the Republic was “widely concerned about the social asymmetries in which the country lives” and that the solution goes through consensus among the parties.

“ We need broad consensus, we need to set aside party political ideologies, we need to put aside the confrontation and political theater that is being held in Parliament, and we need to put aside the ‘blame’, because people want solutions’, said Mr Madeira.

Filipe Sousa praised the round of hearings promoted by the President of the Republic, as well as his initiative to seek to promote a pact in health, and defended that the parties must realize that “it is not with radicalism, it is not with offenses, it is not with theaters that solve the problems”.

The JPP deputy also said, using an expression used by the head of state at this meeting, that it is available to be “a small piece of the puzzle to find solutions”.

“I notice clearly – and I passed on to you President – that there is a total distrust of people in parties and institutions, and that is the result of a bubble that is transversal to all parties, including that which I belong to. That's a fact. My message has been this, a year ago, and I want to somehow reverse this situation and present solutions,” he said.

António José Seguro will receive the parties at the Palace of Belém in hearings scheduled between 08:30 and 13:30, in the following order: JPP, PAN, CDS-PP, BE, PCP, Free, IL, PS, Enough and PSD.

These hearings were convened on Wednesday last week, two days after the head of state called for an understanding between the PSD/CDS-PP Government and opposition parties to take urgent and other lasting measures in the area of housing.

Following the police intervention on protesters for the right to housing on Sunday morning, António José Seguro spoke to journalists on Tuesday, stating that he did not like what he saw and reiterated the call for urgent solutions to housing, through dialogue, without resorting to violence.
