A Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced today that it shot down an American-made MQ-1 drone in airspace east of the Ormuz Strait.
“A few hours ago, the 14th advanced MQ-1 drone was intercepted and destroyed by a modern Air Defense System of the Revolutionary Guard Aerospace Force,” the Iranian elite military corps reported in a statement released by the IRNA news agency.
The Revolutionary Guard indicated that the drone was shot down in front of the coast of the Iranian village of Sirik, east of the Ormuz Strait.
On Sunday, the Iranian Army had announced the shooting of an American attack drone LUCAS in the airspace of Bandar Abbas in the south of the country.
The conflict between Tehran and Washington began in late February, when the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran.
In recent days, the US authorities have warned several Middle East countries and regional allies of possible further military action against Iran following the mid-term elections next week in the United States.
Washington also alerted partners to the possibility of Iran trying to retaliate against them, after these attacks, advanced to the Associated Press (AP) agency two diplomats linked to the process, who spoke under anonymity.
President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on further attacks against Iran, the diplomats stressed.
The Republican, however, has repeatedly said that he evaluates ordering a new military action as soon as the November 3rd elections in the United States are over.
These threats, added to the US insistence that its allies prepare for possible retaliations, have left the region on alert, indicating that a return to large-scale operations may be on the horizon.
