O Nikkei closed today to rise 1.1%, following the decision of the Federal Reserve (Fed) to keep interest rates unchanged and in expectation of the Bank of Japan (BoJ) to make the same decision this Friday.
The main index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, which groups the 225 most representative titles on the Japanese market, rose 705,28 points, to 64,659,47 units, recording three consecutive closures on high.
The most comprehensive index, Topix, which includes companies in the main segment — those with the highest capitalisation — has risen by 0.29%, or 11.57 points, to 4.003.28 units.
The rise on the Tokyo stock exchange follows the high Wall Street closure at the Wednesday session, marked by the decision of the US central bank to keep interest rates in the range between 3.75% and 4%, and the expectation that BoJ will announce this Friday remains the rates at 1.25%, as investors expect.
In the semiconductor sector, Advantest fired 6.01% and Tokyo Electron went up 2.35%, while Disc recorded a slight decrease of 0.08%. The Japanese manufacturer of Kioxia memories rose 1.15% the day before the quarterly results were released.
The SoftBank telecommunications and investment group, considered one of the world's leading AI investors, grew by 1.77%.
In the automotive sector, Toyota, Japan's largest vehicle manufacturer, rose 0.85%, while rival Honda and Nissan valued 0.03% and 1.26%, respectively.
In addition, Sony, a reference in the electronics and entertainment sector, recorded a fall of 0.53%, while Fast Retailing, the parent company of the popular Uniqlo clothing chain, rose by 0.38%.
