Tis the inconsistency of results reached the end? This is one of the issues that hangs most over the heads of the fans of Sporting, after the victory won, last Friday, on Sporting Braga, in the Quarreira, by 1-3, in what was the most awaited meeting of the eighth day of the I League.

It will also be the doubt that the lions themselves will seek to dissipate, at the end of the afternoon of Tuesday, at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, where they will have the Lens, in the duel in which will be given the ‘starting shot’ for the second round of the League League league league league league, with many millions of euros at stake.

Face to face, there will be two formations that have entered the largest competition of European football clubs with the ‘right foot’, the Portuguese, by taking the best over Galatasaray, in the José Alvalade Stadium, by 3-1, and the Portuguese, by overcoming Slavia Prague, in the Fortuna Arena, by 2-3.

Curiously, as do green and white, so do Les Sang et al. Or are ‘desperate’ for stability, following a start of the 2026/27’s sports season, which culminated even in the resignation of German coach Dino Toppmoller and subsequent return of Yannick Cahuzac.

In the first two games in office, the former medium added a defeat (on the visit to AS Monaco, for 2-1) and a triumph (on the reception to the Olympic Lyon, by Paul Fonseca, for 2-1). Now, at the age of 41, you will debut at the million-dollar test, committed to demonstrating that you are up to the task assigned to you.

Lens-Sporting has an initial whistle scheduled for 5:45 p.m., and will be beeped by Igor Pajac, who will lead an almost 100% Croatian team, composed of assistant links Bojan Zobenica and Ivan Mihalj, fourth referee Dario Bel and VAR Ivan Bebek (the only exception will be AVAR, Polish Tomasz Kwiatkowski).

Coaches in direct speech

Yannick Cahuzac

Experience can make a difference: “He is a heavy opponent, with immense experience at this level, in this competition.”

Home factor is important: “We will respect them, but we will also enter with great ambition, because we play at home, against a heavy opponent, but with a great advantage: Bollaert and our audience.”

Positive moment: “This game against Lyon gave us a lot of confidence in the work we were able to do during this break. We cannot talk about dynamics, because it is only a victory, but it must give us a lot of confidence in the work we are doing and what we are implementing.”

Rui Borges

Ibrahima Ba fundamental?: “It depends on what you talk about physicality, it’s not about strong or high players, it’s about the high intensity of each Lens player, and we have to be intense too, all, not just Ba. Ba is not the superman of Sporting in the competitive part. We came from a game where we had to increase the level of competitiveness and we were better and we won for it. Tomorrow is a bit like Sporting Braga, a game that will require a lot of us on a physical level, are very intense collectively, from the attackers to their defense, which is very competitive. Two very intense and vertical wings, important in the offensive process and with great capacity to return and defend. We have to keep up. The game with Sp. Braga forced us at [intense] levels to all of us, but tomorrow we will have to be even better.”

Sporting Priority: “That question is correct to what I said, that our Champions is the championship. To be here, we have to be champions. My focus is the championship. Of course we look at the next game a lot, regardless of the competition, but we want to compete. We have a young group that likes and wants to compete. Of course, most players look at this competition as a dream come true, a window. They're young people who once dreamed of enjoying this competition. And above all that's what we want, to compete. No matter who you play. Even though we are going to have many difficulties, that is what we want to do tomorrow.”

Sporting is already Mercedes in Champions: “Sporting is now a regular presence in Champions. It's a great club. We're a Mercedes. It may not be a top-of-the-line... But we have the validation of being a great team and for which everyone looks like they have a lot of quality. I don't just want to value last season, but also the continued growth in this competition. We know that this is a difficult test with the best in Europe and the world, and we want to be included here. We are. Then it's competing. In our own way, in our own way, value our country as much as possible, our club, our partners and sympathizers. And also to us as a big team and a team that has earned to be among the best.”
