O Chelsea is planning to move on to the hiring of Daniel Banjaqui in the winter market in January, after another injury contracted by Captain Reece James, advance the english portal TEAMtalk.
The blues of London do not want to waste any more time and find a new right side that gives guarantees for the future, while at the same time having the willingness to invest many millions.
In this sense, Banjaqui's profile fits Xabi Alonso's ideas, but Chelsea knows he's not alone in the race for the young Benfica player.
The same portal recalls that in England there are at least two stakeholders (Arsenal and Liverpool) and that the incarnate direction is determined to keep the player in the Light, taking into account the enormous potential.
Benfica is thus not available to negotiate, but the termination clause, worth EUR 45 million, can lead Chelsea to act quickly: by triggering the same, which would leave Rui Costa’s structure ‘hand and foot tied’.
Reece James again at the ‘boat’
James' new injury, which should remain out for three months because of a knee problem, to which he will be operated, is the source of this haste in trying to find a viable alternative already in the next transfer window.
The English international would be the undisputed holder for the right-hand side of the Xabi Alonso-oriented team, but at the age of 26, it adds injuries after injuries and the numbers do not lie: 834 days that was outside, due to physical problems, since it debuted by Chelsea's main team in September 2019.
Xabi Alonso now has French Malo Gusto and Italian Marco Lecture as alternatives. However, the former does not seem to be particularly pleased with the Spanish coach and may even leave soon, even being in Liverpool's sights. The second was hired last summer, but was entitled to only 18 minutes in front of Bournemouth.
Thus, Banjaqui is seen by Chelsea as a long-term bet, but with conditions to impose himself immediately on Stamford Bridge.
Bah doesn't make it easy on the Light
For now, the young international under-21 is trying to convince Marco Silva to give him minutes at Benfica, something that has happened sporadicly so far.
Alexander Bah’s good time of form has complicated the life of Banjaqui, which has had several opportunities to show itself, highlighting the good exhibition signed on the visit to AC Milan, at the start of the Europe League, at a time when the Danish side was having a problem on the right shoulder.
Launched by Mourinho
Banjaqui settled on Benfica's main team this season, after debuting in the transatlantic, by the hand of coach José Mourinho.
The 18-year-old right side was part of the national under-17 team that became world champion and soon after was entitled to make the jump to Benfica's team A.
The debut took place in the final eighths of the Cup of Portugal, in front of Farense, adding the first title on the 19th day of the I Liga, before the Amadora Star, in a game in which he even watched Anísio Cabral in the goal that fixed the final result in the Light.
