O leader of the Israeli left, Yair Golan, today called for an opposition alliance to be formed with the Arab parties of Israel in order to ward off Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We should no longer accept Netanyahu’s racist division between Jewish votes and Arab votes,” said Yair Golan through a message broadcast on social networks.
“ We have a responsibility. And we have the opportunity to form a government of change in partnership with the Arab citizens of Israel,” he added.
“ We have had a historic opportunity to form a government of real change in Israel, and we do not intend to let it slip away,” said the left-wing leader — to whom polls assign ten seats in Parliament, according to the data available so far.
Yair Golan said that the left is prepared to work with all its partners, build bridges against differences and take responsibility.
With 51.8% of the votes, the Likud and its allies total 55 seats of the 120 that make up the Knesset (parliament), the opposition bloc has 49, and the Arab parties, with 16, according to data released by the Electoral Commission.
