A reopening of this section had been announced on 3 September by the Infrastructures of Portugal (IP) and by CP - Trains of Portugal and appears after an investment of 3.4 million euros from the damage caused by the storm Kristin.
In a joint note, the two entities state that it will be possible, as of today, to restore regional and intercity services to the full extent of the Beira Baixa Line, as well as the freight operation.
The note points out that two landslides, between the kilometers 39,150 and 39,270, required the work of stabilizing the slopes, strengthening the railway platform, improving drainage and integral replacement of the route and affected systems.
The intervention included the application of about 5,500 cubic meters of encroachment and the construction of two reinforced concrete structures based on microstacks, as well as an intermediate crowning beam.
In addition, hydraulic passages, telecommunications, land systems and other affected railway infrastructure have been rehabilitated and improved.
While the intervention took place, CP ensured replacement road transport in the affected section, with Intercities services between Abrantes and Guarda and Regionals between Mouriscas-A and Vila Velha de Ródão.
The Beira Baixa Line, with about 240 kilometers, connects the Enthroncamento to the Guard, passing through Abrantes, Castelo Branco and Covilhã.
Railway traffic was partially suspended following the damage caused by the storms of the beginning of the year, which affected several railway and road infrastructure in the country.
