O country is in mourning. The singer Luís Represas died this Wednesday, July 22, at the age of 69. The news was immediately highlighted on social networks, where several known faces (and many other netizens) lamented their departure and paid tribute to it.
Nuno Markl was one of the first known faces to manifest publicly, lovingly remembering the singer – with whom he had the opportunity to meet several times.
“My first memory of Luís Represas is this record, which my parents had in their impeccable vinyl collection,” he began by referring to the album “Baile no Bosque”, by Trovante, released in 1988.
“ Even before I knew what he looked like in real life, he was that character ahead, full of hair and signs, in a cape that made Trovante's members dolls worthy of any comic book. The years went by and I found the unique voice of the Damsas on records that also raged at home as “Trovante 84”, which contained the epic “Sach of Witches Dancing”, still holding one of the best animated videos ever, drawn by the talented pity of the animator Abi Feijó”, continued to highlight Nuno Markl.
“ When I saw Trovante in the movies, in the comedy of Arthur Semedo "The Baron of Altamira", I realized that those people might have a sense of humor. When, many years later, I met Luis and challenged him to present a new and bold version of "Lostly", in a broadcast of "The Man Who Bited Dog TV", on TVI, I confirmed this sense of humor, when he responded to me, with unexpected naturality: ‘Only if I sing with a vacuum cleaner’. And I naturally replied: “Of course I did”. It cuts to one of the most hypnotically hilarious moments that I remember seeing on TV ", remembered then.
“Louis Represas and I ended up crossing each other several times in life, in one of them feeling the fatherly nature of the artist: I remember playing music on a weekend in the Tower of Belém, when time did not help the party, and I was carrying with wet bursts in the face, while trying to cheer the crowd up, and Louis pulling me out of there, restless, saying: “Markl, I left but that’s where you still die electrocuted”, ignoring my stubborn “but it’s because they are paying me to play music, isn’t it bad to get out?” Nuno Markl said.
“ He was a legendary voice in Portuguese music, and he was also a nice guy. We know at these times that the voice stays, but that one loses the cool guy, which is incalculably sad”, one can read, finally, in the same publication.
Luís Represas died the year he celebrated his 50th career, divided between the Trovante and solo. There were two concerts scheduled at the Coliseums of Lisbon and Porto, which were to take place in April 2027.
The artist, voice of success themes such as “Lostly”, “The Next Time” and “Wizard”, died a victim of prolonged illness.
