O Government of Madeira (PSD/CDS-PP) today decided to grant additional financial support to the 600 home embroiderers in the autonomous region, a maximum individual amount of EUR 400.
In a statement, the executive explains that the sum, for a total of EUR 240 thousand, aims to support embroiderers in the acquisition of means of production and goods that “allow the exercise of the activity under appropriate conditions of hygiene and safety”.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the Regional Government Council, led by Social Democrat Miguel Albuquerque, which took place in Funchal.
“ This additional financial aid is granted to each of the home embroiderers of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, with a maximum individual amount of EUR 400”, reads in the note.
The embroiderers are considered the “central pillar” of one of the most iconic traditional arts in the country – Madeira Embroidery.
At today's meeting, the Regional Government also authorised the payment of financial compensation to professional fishing vessels, worth EUR 1,797, through the conclusion of programme contracts.
The aid is intended for vessels owners (natural persons and legal persons) with a valid licence, whose engine is gasoline, registered in the fleet of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
“ This financial support aims to compensate for the increased costs of the price of gasoline in the fishing activity, during the period from 1 January to 31 December 2025”, the executive explains.
Among other deliberations, the Regional Government also determined that the public company APRAM – Administration of Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira should review the special requirements for minimum equipment required for licensing of docking companies operating in the archipelago.
The objective is to pass the minimum number of vertical drive cranes to four, each having a minimum capacity of 60 tonnes.
