O Fulham will be starting to lose patience with Álvaro Arbeloa, a coach who was hired to face the departure of Marco Silva to Benfica, a month after being fired from the technical command of Real Madrid and subsequently replaced by the Portuguese also José Mourinho.
In such a way that, according to early information, this Monday, by the British portal TEAMtalk, the most recent disengagement, endorsed on the trip to Portman Road, before the Ipswich Town, for 2-1, in play counting for the sixth Premier League journey, will even have led the cottagers to carry out an ultimatum.
This means that you can read, or win, at least four points in the next two games, against the newly promoted Hull City (on Saturday in Craven Cottage) and Coventry City (a week later at the Coventry Building Society Arena), or you run serious risks of getting fired.
Álvaro Arbeloa, remember, has a valid contract with the London emblem until June 2029, but the beginning is far from auspicious, so that, after six rounds, he still does not know what it is to win at the top of English football. After the accounts, it adds only two points in 18 possible, so lives in the 20th and last place of the table.
The only two reasons the former defense had to smile so far have emerged in the League Cup, where it took the best, first, on the AFC Wimbledon (the League One, the Third Division, in Her Majesty's Lands), by category 3-0, and then the West Ham (the Championship, the Second), by 2-3.
“You can’t be a coach if you’re afraid”
The tone of contestation around Álvaro Arbeloa goes up in tone every week that passes, but last Saturday he assured, at the press conference that followed the visit to Ipswich Town, which has no fear of being fired from the technical command of Fulham.
“ I never care about my position. I'm not afraid. You can't coach if you feel that way. You have to work, make the decisions you have to make and show confidence in your players”, he said, to journalists, in statements reproduced by the British television station BBC Sport.
“ I feel very satisfied with several things they [the players] are doing. I know it's not easy for them. It's not about my position, it's about Fulham's position. That's the most important thing. Obviously, there are only six games, but it is true that we need points”, he added.
Ryan Sessègnon, who scored the goal that even put the Londoners in front of the scorer on Portman Road, for his part, went out in defense of the Spanish coach: “We have to look well at ourselves. It has little to do with mentality right now. We must try to demand more of ourselves.”.
“ We have to impose higher standards for ourselves, because it will be a complicated season”, completed the left-side.
