Moor? Who? Marco Silva fulmina (almost) all records in Benfica

With Marco Silva, Benfica earns more, loses less and scores more goals than with José Mourinho. Real Madrid's now coach only wins in the defensive chapter... but the margin is almost zero.

Marco Silva will fulfill, by 8:15 p.m. (hour of Continental Portugal) next Monday, in the Stadium of Luz, before the Alverca, the one that will be the 20th game in the technical command of Benfica, and the truth is that, at least until now, the fans have no reason to ‘cry’ the exit of José Mourinho to Real Madrid.

After the accounts, with the Lisbon to the helm, the incarnates won 79% of the matches made (15 out of 19), tied 10.5% and lost another 10.5% (two in 19 in both cases), numbers far superior to those of the predecessor, who presented a 60% record of triumphs (27 out of 45), 22.2% of equalitys (10 out of 45) and 17.8% of desaires (8 out of 45).

With Marco Silva, the eagles also have an average of 2.95 goals scored per game (there are 59), which is worth the best attack, not only of the I League, but also of the Europa League. With the Special One, this average was substantially lower, of 1.91 try per departure ( 86 out of 45 made in office).

In fact, the sadino only wins in the defensive chapter... but for very little, since, under his orders, the formation based in the Stadium of Light suffered, on average, 0.87 goals per game (39 out of 45), record that increased to 0,89 (17 out of 19), since the former coach of Fulham arrived to his place.

In the I League, remember, José Mourinho did not suffer any defeat, having left with an average of 2.3 points per game (20 wins and ten draws). Marco Silva, for his part, already ‘tombou’ before FC Porto (at the Dragon Stadium, by 3-1), but also here it comes out on top, since yours is 2.4 points per game (nine wins, a draw and a defeat).

In the other chapters, the comparison is... impossible. This is because, unlike Benfica's current coach, the predecessor competed in the Champions League, not the Europa League. In addition, he led the eagles to the final half of the League Cup and to the final quarter of the Cup of Portugal, proofs that have barely begun in the sport season of 2026/27.

Marco Silva unblocked Benfica's attack

In his favor, Marco Silva also has the fact that Benfica's success, above all, was based on players who, although already in the Stadium of Light, were not able to have the same impact, with José Mourinho. The most visible case is Gianluca Prestianni, who, at the age of 20, is already initialling the best season of his career.

After the accounts, the Argentine international adds ten goals and six assists to the 17 games, being one of the main 'guilty' for the good time that the incarnates live, along with elements such as Vangelis Pavlidis (17 goals and four assists in 17 games) or Rafa Silva (five goals and two assists in 17 games).

‘Revolution’ conditions the defense

The amount of goals suffered by Benfica, so far, can be explained, to a large extent, by the departure of Nicolás Otamendi (for River Plate, ‘zero charge’) and António Silva (for Bournemouth, for 25 million euros), who forced Marco Silva to restructure this sector around the summer reinforcement Clément Lenglet and the ‘boy of the house’ Tomás Araújo.

In the middle, the Lisbon chose, still, to relegate the until now undisputed holder, Anatoliyi Trubin, to the bench of alternates, to the detriment of Samuel Soares, who, at the age of 24, lives the best moment of his career, which has already earned him, even, a call to the main selection of Portugal, by the ‘hand’ of Jorge Jesus.
